Honda to Bring Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Car to California This Year

Honda plans to roll out a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle in California before the end of this year, expanding its zero-emission lineup beyond battery-electric models. The move signals the automaker’s continued bet on fuel-cell technology as a complement to its EV strategy.

California remains the most viable U.S. market for fuel-cell cars thanks to its limited but established hydrogen refueling network. Honda has prior experience in this space, having leased the Clarity Fuel Cell to customers in the state before production ended.

The announcement comes as automakers weigh which zero-emission pathways will scale. While battery-electric vehicles dominate sales, hydrogen advocates argue fuel-cell cars suit drivers who need fast refueling and long range. Infrastructure remains the biggest hurdle, with few stations operating outside California.
