GWM Sweetens Ora 5 Deal with a Free Home Charger in Australia

GWM is throwing a complimentary 7 kW home charger into the deal for buyers of its Ora 5 electric SUV in Australia, a move clearly aimed at stoking demand for the model it introduced to the local market in June.

The charger, which the brand values at $599, applies to both Ora 5 variants and is tied to vehicles delivered by the end of October 2026. Pricing for the small electric SUV starts at $33,990 drive-away, and the charger is bundled into that advertised figure rather than sold as an add-on. For shoppers weighing up a switch to electric, a ready-to-install wallbox removes one of the more fiddly early hurdles of ownership.

The Ora 5 is a noticeably larger proposition than the original Ora hatchback it supplants in GWM’s Australian electric range, and it slots into the fiercely contested small family SUV segment. The strategy appears to be gaining traction: 609 units found homes in September, placing the model eleventh among EVs for the month. GWM has also confirmed the older Ora will return later with a refresh, though the immediate commercial priority rests on the newer, roomier SUV.

Under the skin, the Ora 5 runs a 150 kW front-mounted motor paired with a 58.3 kWh LFP battery, and it is sold in Lux and Ultra trims. GWM quotes up to 430 km of WLTP range — comfortably ahead of the popular BYD Atto 2, which is rated at 345 km. DC fast charging tops out at 120 kW, enough to lift the battery from 30 to 80 percent in roughly 20 minutes, and vehicle-to-load capability allows the car to supply up to 6 kW of external power for tools, appliances or camping gear.

Equipment is generous from the entry point. The Lux variant brings a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, six-way electric driver’s seat adjustment, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker DTS audio system. Stepping up to the Ultra adds 18-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate, memory for the driver’s seat and heated plus ventilated front seats. Peace-of-mind coverage includes a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty alongside an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the high-voltage pack. With more than 125 dealers now operating nationally, GWM is also better placed than it was during the original Ora’s run to put the Ora 5 in front of prospective buyers.
