Freshly Built Funco SSII Buggy Surfaces for Sale in South Australia

A newly completed Funco SSII buggy has appeared on the collector market, blending vintage off-road character with modern mechanical hardware. Built by TSM Motorsports, the machine is finished in gold and carries a central driving position with a red-and-black leatherette seat. Its odometer reportedly shows just 10 kilometres, underlining how little use it has seen since completion.

Power comes from a rebuilt 2.2-litre GM inline-four managed by a Haltech 550 ECU, paired with a four-speed Kombi 1800 manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. The chassis runs Profender shocks, four-wheel disc brakes, a turning brake, power steering and 15-inch Centreline alloy wheels. The stripped-back cockpit features a quick-release Velo wheel, Proforce harness, VDO tachometer, push-button start, kill switch, custom toggle switches, aluminium controls and LED lighting.

The SSII name carries genuine desert-racing weight. Funco Motorsports was founded by Gilmon “Gil” George in 1968 and remains a family-run operation in Rialto, California. Its buggies became fixtures of SCORE competition, with drivers such as Bobby Ferro, Malcolm Smith and Bud Feldkamp scoring major Baja 500 and Baja 1000 results in Funco chassis, while Tamiya’s 1979 Rough Rider brought the sand-rail silhouette to a far wider audience.

The buggy is now offered for sale from Belair in South Australia with build documentation, listed through Collecting Cars.
