Ford's US Battery Plant with CATL Tech Finally Comes Online

After a series of delays and challenges, Ford’s new battery plant in the United States has been completed and has started production. The facility, built with technology licensed from Chinese battery giant CATL, marks a significant step for Ford’s electrification strategy.

A CATL vice president confirmed the news, stating that the plant began operations in June. The project, which faced setbacks including regulatory hurdles and shifting market conditions, is now operational. The plant will produce LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery cells, which are known for their cost-effectiveness and safety.

This milestone is crucial for Ford as it looks to ramp up its EV lineup and reduce costs. The technology licensing agreement allows Ford to leverage CATL’s expertise while mitigating risks associated with direct investment in the Chinese market. With production underway, Ford aims to strengthen its supply chain and accelerate its transition to electric mobility.
