EVgo Bets on Shopping Trips With 400 New Charging Stalls at Regency Centers

EVgo is expanding its fast-charging footprint through a new partnership with Regency Centers, a real estate investment trust focused on grocery-anchored shopping plazas. The deal calls for roughly 400 charging stalls to be installed across Regency’s retail properties, placing chargers directly where drivers already run errands rather than on isolated highway plots.
That siting strategy reflects a broader shift in how charging operators think about utilization. A charger’s value increasingly hinges on whether it sits near places people linger — supermarkets, cafes, fitness studios — instead of depending purely on long-distance travel corridors. By piggybacking on existing retail foot traffic, EVgo aims to keep its equipment busier throughout the day.
The move also signals how retail landlords are courting charging companies as a way to draw customers and add value to their parking areas. Neither company disclosed a precise timeline or a dollar figure for the buildout, and the rollout will likely unfold in phases across the portfolio.
