Enphase Introduces Bidirectional EV Charger That Doubles as Home Backup Power

Enphase Energy has unveiled a new bidirectional EV charging system designed to turn an electric vehicle into more than just a daily driver. The setup relies on a meter collar connection, allowing the charger to interface directly with a home’s electrical service and potentially feed power back to the grid or keep the lights on during an outage.

The meter collar approach is what sets this apart from many competing products. By tapping the meter socket rather than requiring a full panel upgrade or separate transfer switch, Enphase aims to simplify installation in existing homes. That could lower both the cost and the complexity that has slowed adoption of vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid technology.
