EKPO and Akkodis to test high-output fuel cell stack in 40-tonne hydrogen truck

German fuel cell specialist EKPO and Swiss engineering firm Akkodis are joining forces to integrate EKPO’s latest fuel cell stack into a demonstration hydrogen truck. The heavy-duty vehicle, tipping the scales at 40 tonnes, will showcase the stack’s potential with a combined system output of up to 360 kW. The collaboration aims to validate the technology under real-world operating conditions, gathering valuable performance data that will inform the next generation of fuel cell systems.

While the immediate focus is on trucking, the partners intend to leverage the insights across a broader spectrum. The data collected could be instrumental in adapting the fuel cell architecture for stationary power generation, maritime propulsion, and off-highway machinery. By testing in a demanding transport environment, EKPO and Akkodis hope to accelerate the commercialization of scalable, high-efficiency fuel cell solutions for diverse industrial applications.
