Easelink Shows Off Automated Conductive Charging for EVs

Austrian tech company Easelink has publicly demonstrated an automated conductive charging system for electric vehicles. The setup uses a connector that lowers from the vehicle to meet a floor-mounted plate, creating a physical connection without any cables or manual plugging. This approach aims to deliver the convenience of wireless charging while maintaining the efficiency and speed of conductive power transfer.

The demonstration highlights a growing interest in automated charging solutions as EVs become more mainstream. Unlike inductive systems, which rely on magnetic fields and can suffer from alignment losses, Easelink’s method uses direct metal-to-metal contact. This could reduce energy waste and simplify thermal management, though it requires precise alignment between the car and the infrastructure.

Easelink is among several companies exploring autonomous charging to support fleet operations, autonomous vehicles, and drivers who want a seamless experience. While the technology is not yet widespread, the successful demo suggests that conductive automated charging could become a viable option alongside plug-in and wireless systems in the coming years.
