CSI's 2.3 MWh BESS Powers 1 MW MCS Charging for EV Fleets

CSI's 2.3 MWh BESS Powers 1 MW MCS Charging for EV Fleets

As heavy-duty electric vehicles prepare for large-scale deployment, the charging ecosystem is focusing on interoperability from the outset. The introduction of IEC TS 63379 and SAE J3271 standards for the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) is a clear signal that the industry is building a unified infrastructure capable of supporting the most demanding fleet requirements.

In a significant step forward, CSI has developed a 2.3 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) that delivers 1 MW output through MCS. This solution enables high-power charging even in locations where grid capacity is limited, offering fleets greater flexibility and reducing the need for costly grid upgrades. The BESS acts as a buffer, storing energy during off-peak hours and discharging at high rates when vehicles are plugged in.

The combination of MCS standards and BESS technology marks a pivotal moment for electric trucking and bus fleets. By ensuring that hardware and software across different manufacturers can communicate seamlessly, the industry is laying the groundwork for a reliable and efficient heavy-duty charging network. This approach not only accelerates the transition to zero-emission transport but also helps fleet operators optimize their energy usage and operating costs.
