China's May EV Battery Installations Rise 26%, LFP Dominates with 81% Share

China’s electric vehicle battery market continued its upward trend in May, with installations reaching 71.9 GWh, a 26% increase compared to the same period last year. This marks yet another month of sustained growth for the sector, reflecting the robust demand for new energy vehicles across the country.
Notably, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries maintained their stronghold, capturing an 81.2% share of the total installations. This preference for LFP chemistry aligns with the industry’s focus on cost efficiency and safety, especially in the budget-friendly and mid-range EV segments.
The steady rise in battery installations underscores the accelerating transition to electric mobility in China, supported by government policies and consumer adoption. As the market evolves, battery technology advancements and supply chain expansions are expected to further shape the competitive landscape.
