CATL Chairman Outlines Three Major Hurdles for Solid-State Battery Production

During a recent industry event, CATL’s chairman highlighted that solid-state batteries, while promising, are not yet ready for mass production. The executive pointed to three critical challenges that must be overcome before this next-generation technology can be scaled commercially.

These hurdles primarily relate to material stability, manufacturing processes, and cost efficiency. Achieving the required ionic conductivity at scale remains difficult, and the production line adjustments needed are substantial. Additionally, the high cost of solid-state components currently limits their viability in mainstream electric vehicles.

CATL remains committed to advancing research and development in this area, but the chairman emphasized that realistic timelines are essential. The company is balancing short-term improvements in lithium-ion technology with long-term breakthroughs in solid-state systems, ensuring that progress is steady and sustainable.
