CATL and BYD Lead Global EV Battery Market, Chinese Firms Hold 72.2% Share

Global electric vehicle battery installations during the first four months of 2026 show a clear dominance by Chinese manufacturers, with seven companies from the country securing spots in the top ten. Together, these firms account for 72.2% of the total market, underscoring China’s leading position in the sector.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), the world’s largest battery maker, continues to lead with a 40.1% market share. BYD, known for its electric vehicles and battery production, follows in second place with 14.2%.
The latest figures reflect strong demand for electric vehicles globally, as well as the competitive edge of Chinese suppliers in terms of scale and cost efficiency. The remaining top ten players include several other Chinese companies, further cementing the region’s influence over the battery supply chain.
