BYD's Second-Gen Seal 07 Lands November 5 With a Bigger Body and Two Powertrains

BYD is set to pull the wraps off the second-generation Seal 07 on November 5, 2026, a refresh that pushes the sedan firmly into full-size territory while giving buyers both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid choices.
The Ocean-series model has already started showing up in showrooms. Zhang Zhuo, who heads sales for BYD’s Ocean lineup, said on Weibo that display cars have reached dealers in 131 Chinese cities ahead of the official debut.
A Sedan That Grew Up
The new Seal 07 stretches to 5,080 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, riding on a 2,960 mm wheelbase. Put next to the Seal 07 EV that arrived in March, that’s 85 mm more length, 50 mm extra width and a 60 mm longer wheelbase — all of which should translate into noticeably more cabin room.
Styling follows the Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 language, so the sedan now reads as a close relative of the Seal 08.
Key Specs: 5,080 mm long · 2,960 mm wheelbase · 245 kW / 300 kW single-motor options · 38.029 kWh PHEV pack · 245 km WLTC electric range
What’s Under the Skin
The EV side, per earlier filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, comes in two motor tunes: 245 kW (329 hp) and 300 kW. BYD’s previews also promised the second-generation Blade Battery, flash charging and the DiSus-M magnetorheological body control setup.
Inside, expect front zero-gravity seats with massage, ventilation and heating, plus a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. Display cars carry roof-mounted LiDAR, though BYD hasn’t detailed driver-assistance specs per trim yet.
The plug-in hybrid keeps the Seal 07 DM-i badge and combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a 160 kW drive motor. Its 38.029 kWh battery delivers a claimed 245 km (152 miles) of WLTC electric range.
- Reservations: Opened October 26 for the EV, no price announced
- Deposit terms: Fully refundable until the order is confirmed, with priority build slots for early reservers
- Pricing benchmark: The March-launched Seal 07 EV started at 169,900 yuan ($25,310) and 189,900 yuan for its two trims
Why the Quick Refresh
Eight months between generations is unusually fast, and the sales numbers explain the urgency. The broader Seal family moved 46,718 units in September — down 9.04% year-on-year and 1.57% versus August.
Through the first nine months of 2026, cumulative Seal lineup volume hit 304,723 vehicles, a 14.11% slide year-on-year. Those figures cover the whole Seal range, not the 07 alone, but the direction is clear enough.
Chinese buyers have been gravitating toward larger, tech-heavy sedans, and a longer, wider Seal 07 with LiDAR and BYD’s newest battery tech looks like a direct answer to that shift. Whether a bigger footprint and a fresh face can reverse the slide — that’s the question November 5 will start to answer.
