BYD Electric Bus Sales Climb 51.8% in August Despite Monthly Dip

BYD’s commercial vehicle division remains a fully electric operation, and its bus business delivered a strong year-over-year performance in August with sales rising 51.8%. The figure marks a notable gain compared to the same month a year earlier, even though the total slipped slightly from July’s numbers.
The month-over-month softening suggests the electric bus market is not moving in a straight line. Fleet orders tend to arrive in waves, and transit agencies often bunch purchases around budget cycles, so a single month’s dip is less telling than the broader trend. On that score, the annual comparison points to continued expansion.
Because every commercial vehicle BYD sells runs on battery power alone, these results offer a clean read on electric demand in the heavy-duty segment, without the plug-in hybrid mix that complicates passenger car figures. Buses remain one of the most visible ways electrification reaches the public, and BYD’s August performance keeps the company in a leading position in that transition.
