BMW Unveils New iX4: 428 Miles of Range, Coupe-Like Silhouette, and a $66,200 Starting Tag

BMW has pulled the wraps off the iX4, the latest member of its Neue Klasse electric family and a more aerodynamic, sloped-roof alternative to the iX3 crossover. The coupe-SUV has been positioned as the all-electric successor to the combustion-powered X4, and it becomes the third Neue Klasse model to reach showrooms after the iX3 and i3. That earlier pair introduced buyers to BMW’s reworked design language and hardware stack, and the iX4 carries both forward while dialing in a sportier profile aimed at drivers who want the practicality of an SUV with the stance of a grand tourer.
Slotting beneath the headlights is BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system, paired with a 112.2 kWh battery. In the base iX4 50 xDrive, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces a combined 468 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, which BMW says is enough to reach 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The company estimates up to 428 miles of range on the EPA-style figure and up to 514 miles on the WLTP cycle. Sitting above it is the iX4 M60 xDrive, which pushes outputs to 603 hp and 645 lb-ft and cuts the 0-60 sprint to 3.9 seconds, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
Charging is handled by an 800-volt architecture that supports rates up to 400 kW. According to BMW, that translates to roughly 184 miles of range added in ten minutes, while a 10% to 21% top-up takes 21 minutes. The slippery roofline contributes to a drag coefficient of 0.23, a figure that helps explain the strong range claim given the battery size. As with other Gen6 models, the iX4 supports bidirectional charging, allowing it to act as a mobile power bank for external devices or a home.
Inside, the cabin follows the Neue Klasse template with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 43-inch Panoramic Vision display running along the base of the windshield. Buyers can add an optional 3D Head-Up Display above it. The M60 variant gets its own M Sport steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marker, contrast stitching, shift paddles, and dedicated buttons for Boost Mode and M Mode. Measuring 188.3 inches long, 74.6 inches wide, and 63.3 inches tall on a 114.1-inch wheelbase, the iX4 is close in size to the iX3 but sits lower. Driver assistance includes SAE Level 2 systems with Highway Assistant, which permits hands-free driving on highways at speeds up to 85 mph.
The iX4 50 xDrive goes on sale in March 2027 at $66,200 before a $1,495 destination charge, a $4,700 premium over the equivalent iX3. That pricing places the entry car above the Tesla Model Y Performance, which starts at $57,990 in the US, and the upcoming M60 is expected to land in the $85,000 to $90,000 range. BMW is betting that the coupe-SUV formula, longer range, and faster charging will justify the gap for buyers shopping in the premium electric segment.
