BMW iX4 Leaked Ahead of This Week's Debut: A Sportier Electric Coupe-SUV

BMW is preparing to pull the wraps off its newest electric model this week, and the internet has already gotten an early peek. Images of the upcoming iX4 surfaced online, showing both the exterior and cabin of the coupe-shaped electric SUV just days before its scheduled reveal on Thursday.

The iX4 slots into BMW’s growing Neue Klasse family, following the iX3 and i3. It effectively takes over from the current X4, trading the traditional combustion-powered coupe-SUV formula for an all-electric one wrapped in BMW’s latest design language and technology suite. According to reports, the all-new iX4 is set to reach showrooms before the end of 2026.

Buyers will reportedly have two variants to choose from: the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive, both featuring all-wheel drive but differentiated by performance and range figures. Underpinning the iX4 is BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system paired with a 108.7 kWh battery. For context, the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive delivers a WLTP-rated range of up to 500 miles (805 km), while the US version uses a larger 112.2 kWh pack with an EPA estimate of up to 434 miles — giving a reasonable preview of what the iX4’s own numbers could look like once confirmed.

The leaked photos suggest a silhouette that leans more grand tourer than conventional SUV. With a steeply sloped roofline and fastback-inspired proportions, the iX4 trades the boxier stance of the iX3 for something sleeker and more athletic. The interior adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse cabin layout, highlighted by a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a redesigned steering wheel, and the Panoramic Vision 3D head-up display that spans the width of the dashboard. The design matches what spy photographers have been capturing on camouflaged prototypes for several months.

Pricing remains officially unconfirmed, though the iX4 is expected to carry a slight premium over its iX3 sibling. For reference, the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive is priced from $61,500 in the US and €73,925 in Europe, while the iX3 40 starts at €63,400 in European markets with a WLTP range of 628 km (390 miles). If the pattern holds, the iX4 40 xDrive should offer comparable range figures when BMW publishes full specifications at the debut.
