AVILOO's Half-Million Battery Tests Reveal Which Used EVs Age Best

A diagnostics specialist based in Austria has published what it calls the biggest independent look yet at how electric car batteries cope with years of real-world driving. AVILOO put more than 500,000 individual battery health checks through their paces, then narrowed the focus to 20 widely sold models and tracked how much capacity they kept as odometers climbed toward 150,000 km (roughly 93,000 miles).

Sitting at the top of the durability table were the Mercedes EQA, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the BMW i4 — a trio that shed less usable range than the rest of the group over the same distances. Because the results come from routine diagnostics rather than lab simulations, they offer a useful snapshot for anyone shopping the second-hand market and wondering how much life is left in a pre-owned pack.

The scale of the dataset is the headline here: with half a million tests behind it, the study moves the conversation beyond anecdotal owner reports and toward something closer to a benchmark for used-EV battery condition.
