Avatr T09 Makes Global Debut: Six Seats, 1,000-HP Hybrid Powertrain

Avatr has pulled the wraps off its newest flagship, the T09, a six-seat SUV that pairs a range-extender hybrid setup with a combined output approaching 1,000 horsepower. The reveal positions the brand’s largest model yet at the top of its lineup, aimed squarely at buyers who want three rows of space without giving up serious performance.
The T09’s hybrid system follows the extended-range formula Avatr has favored in recent models: a battery pack and electric drive handle propulsion, while a combustion engine acts primarily as a generator to replenish the battery on longer journeys. That architecture lets the T09 deliver the near-silent, instant-torque feel of an EV in daily driving while sidestepping the range anxiety that still gives some shoppers pause.
The six-seat layout, with captain’s chairs in the second row, signals that Avatr is chasing the premium family segment rather than the budget end of the market. Two individual rear seats typically mean easier access to the third row and a more lounge-like experience for passengers, a formula that has proven popular in China’s fast-growing large-SUV category. By combining that packaging with roughly 1,000 hp, Avatr is also making a statement about the brand’s performance ambitions.
Avatr, a joint venture backed by Changan, Huawei, and CATL, has been steadily expanding its portfolio as competition in China’s new-energy vehicle market intensifies. The company leans heavily on Huawei’s software and driver-assistance technology and CATL’s battery expertise, giving the T09 a technology stack that few standalone startups can match. The model arrives as domestic rivals and established global brands alike rush to fill out their electrified SUV lineups.
Details on pricing, market availability, and exact range or efficiency figures have yet to be confirmed. Whether the T09 eventually reaches markets outside China remains an open question, but as a halo product it makes clear where Avatr sees its future: large, tech-heavy, hybrid-assisted electric vehicles with enough power to compete at the top of the segment.
