Asahi Kasei launches wet-process separator coating line in the US

Japanese chemical major Asahi Kasei has taken a significant step toward localizing production of its Hipore wet-process battery separators by inaugurating a new coating facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. This expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to build a robust regional supply chain for wet-process separator manufacturing in North America.

The new line, which is the first of its kind for Asahi Kasei in the region, will focus on coating separators used in lithium-ion batteries. By bringing this capability closer to its customers, the firm aims to enhance supply reliability and reduce lead times for battery makers in the US and beyond.

With the electric vehicle market growing rapidly, securing a stable domestic supply of key battery components has become a priority for many manufacturers. Asahi Kasei’s move reflects this trend, positioning the company to better serve the increasing demand for high-performance separators in the Americas.
