Anthro Energy's New Kentucky Plant Aims to Make Grid Batteries Safer

Anthro Energy has officially started construction on a pioneering battery materials facility in Louisville, Kentucky. This plant, the first of its kind in the United States, is designed to produce advanced electrolyte materials that could significantly enhance the safety of lithium-ion batteries used in grid storage and other applications.

The factory’s planned annual output is substantial, with the capacity to support up to 25 GWh of lithium-ion battery production. That translates into enough materials for roughly 250,000 electric vehicles or a large-scale energy storage system, marking a significant step toward domestic supply chain independence.

What makes this facility stand out is its focus on non-flammable electrolytes, a critical innovation for grid-scale batteries where fires have been a persistent concern.
