Amazon's Best-Rated Mowers Are Electric Again — And That Says a Lot

Amazon's Best-Rated Mowers Are Electric Again — And That Says a Lot

For the second straight year, the top-rated lawn mowers on Amazon run on batteries, not petrol. That’s a quiet but telling shift for a product category that gas engines have owned for decades.

Two forces are pushing homeowners toward the plug. Fuel prices keep climbing, and state and local authorities are steadily tightening rules on noise and small-engine emissions. Together they make the next mower in your shed more likely to be charged than filled.

There’s a practical upside beyond regulation. Electric mowers are quieter, safer to operate, and don’t coat the person pushing them in exhaust fumes.

How the list was put together

The ranking weighed average star ratings across Amazon’s mower listings, filtering for products with at least 2,000 reviews and a four-star average or better. Battery-electric machines from EGO Power+, Greenworks and Worx came out on top — across all fuel types, not just within their own category.

  • EGO POWER+ LM2112: 21-inch push mower, 4.5-star average from over 2,200 reviews, Amazon “Overall Pick”
  • Greenworks 40V 16-inch: 4.2 stars from more than 12,000 verified reviews
  • Greenworks 80V 21-inch: 4.4 stars, steel deck, brushless motor
  • Worx 40V 17-inch Power Share: twin 20V batteries, IntelliCut torque control

EGO’s premium pitch

EGO has spent the past few years positioning its POWER+ line as the benchmark for cordless outdoor gear, built around a 56V battery platform. The LM2112 delivers 6 ft-lbs of cutting torque — roughly what a 150cc gas engine produces — and runs up to 35 minutes on the bundled 4.0 Ah pack. That’s a typical suburban yard.

It mulches, bags or side-discharges, starts with a button press, and folds down for storage. No oil changes, no exhaust, no pull cord.

Greenworks covers both ends

The 40V 16-inch model is the volume seller: 37.5 lbs, a 4.0 Ah battery and charger in the box, and up to 40 minutes of runtime. It’s aimed squarely at smaller lawns and anyone who doesn’t want to wrestle a heavy machine.

Step up to the 80V 21-inch and you get a steel deck, a brushless motor and two 2.0 Ah batteries for up to 40 minutes combined. Seven cutting heights, three-in-one discharge options and a rapid charger that refills in about half an hour round out the package.

Worx leans on clever electronics

The WG743 pairs two 20V 4.0 Ah packs to make 40V, and those same batteries slot into the wider Power Share line of trimmers, drills and other tools. Its IntelliCut system behaves like traction control: torque rises when the blade meets thick grass and eases off when it doesn’t need the extra grunt.

A lightweight frame, seven height settings and mulch-or-bag flexibility make it a tidy option for smaller plots.

Worth checking before you buy: several states and regional clean-air agencies run rebate schemes for electric lawn equipment, and the incentives change often enough that a previous search may be out of date.

The broader point is hard to miss. When the most-reviewed, best-scored mowers on the biggest retail platform are all cordless, the gas mower’s long reign looks a lot less secure.
