Alexander Dennis Moves AD Repower Bus Retrofits In-House

Alexander Dennis is restructuring its AD Repower programme, which converts diesel buses to electric drive, after its original engineering partner, KleanDrive, went into administration and was subsequently acquired. Rather than relying on third-party support, the British bus builder is now taking full ownership of the conversion work.

Seven former KleanDrive engineers have already joined Alexander Dennis to ensure continuity in the retrofitting process. This move not only preserves existing technical know-how but also allows the manufacturer to exert greater quality control over the conversions, which have become an increasingly popular option for operators looking to decarbonize their fleets without purchasing brand-new vehicles.

By internalizing the programme, Alexander Dennis aims to streamline delivery timelines and offer more direct customer support. The company sees in-house expertise as a strategic advantage in a market where battery-electric retrofits are viewed as a cost-effective and sustainable bridge for operators with aging diesel fleets.
