Yadea and Spiro Team Up to Bring Electric Motorcycles and Battery Swapping to Africa

China’s Yadea, which has moved more than 100 million electric two-wheelers worldwide, is joining forces with African e-mobility firm Spiro. The goal is to develop electric motorcycles and scooters aimed squarely at African riders, then slot them into Spiro’s expanding battery-swapping network.

The pairing combines Yadea’s massive production capacity with Spiro’s local battery-swap infrastructure. Two-wheelers are a primary form of transport across much of Africa, so the two companies are betting that accessible electric models plus a reliable swapping system can remove the range and charging barriers that have slowed adoption there.

Specific models, launch dates, and pricing have not been shared. The partnership signals that major Asian manufacturers are increasingly looking to local partners to crack emerging electric mobility markets.
