Xpeng Deepens Australia-New Zealand Bet With Mona L03 SUV Launch

Xpeng has added a third nameplate to its Australian and New Zealand line-up, with the Mona L03 SUV now on sale in both markets. The move follows the G6 SUV and the X9 MPV, which earlier opened the door for the Guangzhou-based automaker in the region.
Positioned as the company’s most advanced driver-assistance offering outside China, the Mona L03 is the first Xpeng model sold overseas to carry its second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) system. Xpeng had signalled in July that driver-assistance features comparable to Tesla’s FSD would be introduced in Australia by 2027.
Pricing starts at A$41,900 (US$29,250) in Australia and NZ$49,900 (US$27,980) in New Zealand. Buyers in both countries can pick between a battery-electric version and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant. The EREV marks the first application of Xpeng’s Kunpeng extended-range setup in the two markets, aligning with the company’s stated “one model, two powertrains” plan for Australia. That variant pairs a 37.2-kWh battery and a 1.5-litre engine for a WLTP-rated 215 km of electric range and 1,017 km combined. Its motor produces 178 kW, enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint of 6.8 seconds. DC fast charging peaks at 123 kW, taking the pack from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes, and 6-kW V2L capability is included.
The L03 measures 4,650 mm long with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, and ships with 18-inch wheels plus the Xpilot Assist system, which bundles adaptive cruise control and lane centering. The launch is part of a broader Australian strategy laid out in Melbourne in July, covering five new models within six months, three flagship experience centers and as many as 50 sales outlets. Xpeng entered Australia in May 2024, bringing the G6 in the fourth quarter of that year and opening X9 pre-orders this July.
Globally, the Mona L03 debuted in Munich on July 16 as Xpeng’s first model to launch simultaneously in China and Europe, with sales earmarked for 64 overseas markets. It lists from 123,800 yuan (US$18,390) at home, where both BEV and EREV versions are offered, while the BEV begins at €35,600 in Europe. Xpeng has also begun teasing the Mona L05 ahead of a planned fourth-quarter debut.
