Why Bundled Insurance Is Becoming a Must-Have for E-Bike Rental Operators

E-bike sharing is booming across the UK, and one operator after another is now folding protection into the price of a ride. Forest is the latest brand to take that step, and its move signals a broader shift: insurance is no longer an optional extra but a core part of the rental proposition.
Ross Sinclair, who leads the insurance specialist EIP, argues that operators should treat bundled coverage as a strategic priority rather than an afterthought. In a market where riders can choose between several apps, protection included at checkout can set a service apart from rivals competing on price alone.
There is also a regulatory dimension. As shared e-bike fleets grow, policymakers are paying closer attention to how riders and pedestrians are protected when something goes wrong. Getting ahead of that curve could spare operators from scrambling later.
With usage climbing past 75,000 shared bikes and beyond, the question for rental companies is no longer whether to offer cover, but how quickly they can make it standard.
