Volkswagen's ID. ERA 8X EREV SUV Enters Pre-Sales in China Ahead of October 12 Debut

SAIC Volkswagen has begun taking pre-orders for the ID. ERA 8X, a five-seat extended-range SUV that will officially go on sale in China on October 12. It becomes the second EREV in the ID. ERA family, following the six-seat ID. ERA 9X that arrived earlier this year.

The new model is available in four trims — Pro, Max, Max Long Range and Ultra Long Range. While pricing has not been disclosed, the SUV is expected to compete in the 250,000 to 350,000 yuan bracket. Buyers who place an 888 yuan deposit before the launch date can apply it as a 5,888 yuan credit, with further incentives including delivery gifts capped at 10,000 sets and priority production slots.

Measuring 5,020 mm long, 1,997 mm wide and 1,750 mm tall, the ID. ERA 8X rides on a 2,970 mm wheelbase — 100 mm shorter than its larger sibling. Under the skin sits a 1.5-liter turbocharged EA211 range extender producing up to 105 kW, paired with either rear- or all-wheel drive. An 800 V architecture supports battery packs of 51.1 kWh and 65.2 kWh, delivering a CLTC electric range of 340 to 451 km and a combined range of up to 1,602 km.

Driver assistance comes from Momenta’s R7 world model, backed by a 192-channel LiDAR and 26 sensors, enabling highway and urban NOA plus parking-space-to-parking-space capability. The cabin runs VW.OS on a Snapdragon 8295P chip with a 15.6-inch central display and a W-HUD. The SUV will square off against established rivals such as the Li Auto L6, Aito M6, Xpeng G9L and IM Motors LS8.
