UST Takes Majority Stake in Italdesign, Acquiring from Audi Group

Audi Group has agreed to sell a majority stake in iconic design and engineering house Italdesign to digital transformation firm UST. The move gives UST a direct route into automotive product development that goes far beyond what purely digital engineering consultancies typically offer. Italdesign’s six decades of close work with original equipment manufacturers provides a depth of longstanding client ties and vehicle programme experience that is difficult to replicate.

For UST, the acquisition represents a bridge between its existing digital and technology services and the physical, engineering-heavy world of car design and development. The company gains not just capacity but also the credibility that comes from an organisation with a well-established track record in bringing vehicles from sketch to production. Audi Group, meanwhile, retains a stake, signalling continued interest in Italdesign’s operations while bringing in a partner to help the business evolve.
