This VW Karmann Ghia Type 34 Hides a Porsche 911 Flat-Six Under Its Skin

Volkswagen’s Karmann Ghia Type 34 has always been one of the prettier shapes to come out of the sixties, but it was never a car that worried anyone at a stoplight. That changes with this build, which trades the original air-cooled flat-four for a 2.7-liter flat-six pulled from a Porsche 911. The swap keeps the car’s original character intact on the surface, with the bodywork staying largely as Volkswagen intended. Only when the engine wakes up does the Type 34 reveal what’s really going on underneath. It’s the classic sleeper formula: familiar looks outside, thoroughly different hardware inside.
