Tesla Flags Storm Threat to Roadster Hover Debut in Texas

Tesla’s long-awaited Roadster showcase, scheduled for October 1, 2026, may be postponed because of severe weather in central Texas, according to a notice sent to invited attendees.

The company told guests the gathering features an outdoor-only experience, so it is watching forecasts closely and could reschedule. The email offered no alternative date, only a pledge to share more details soon. Forecasts for McGregor, where the demonstration is set to take place at SpaceX’s rocket test facility, show a high likelihood of rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, along with gusts strong enough to complicate any outdoor stunt.

The centerpiece is expected to be a hover display using a cold gas thruster package developed with SpaceX, with the vehicle running remotely and spectators kept far back for safety. That setup explains why the event cannot simply move indoors and why wind and rain carry unusual weight for a car reveal.

Tesla first showed a next-generation Roadster prototype in 2017 and has repeatedly pushed back both the demo and production. Reservation holders have paid substantial deposits for standard and Founders Series versions, yet no customer cars have been delivered. If the event slips, another delay would add to a timeline that has already stretched nearly a decade.
