Samsara Wins HelloFresh Contract to Track 500 Electric Delivery Vans

HelloFresh is rolling out Samsara’s telematics across a fleet of more than 500 battery-electric delivery vans in the Benelux region. The decision follows a pilot programme run in the Netherlands, and it hands one connected platform the job of watching over vehicles spread across more than 10 regional hubs.

The meal-kit business wants three things from the system: a read on how its drivers behave behind the wheel, live visibility of vehicle condition, and assurance that chilled food stays within safe temperature limits until it reaches the customer’s door.

Why one screen beats many

That last requirement is what separates this deal from the run-of-the-mill fleet telematics contract. Grocery and meal-kit logistics live or die on cold chain integrity, and a van that drifts out of range in traffic can cost far more than a missed delivery slot.

Because every van in the Benelux operation is electric, HelloFresh also gains a single consolidated view of battery health and overall fleet readiness across all its hubs.

On the driver side, Samsara’s Driver App takes on the routine daily administration — vehicle checks and the usual paperwork — while drivers receive real-time coaching on their driving style. Samsara’s product VP Ryan Yu framed the arrangement as a long-term partnership, noting that it consolidates what had previously been a patchwork of unconnected systems. The platform hooks directly into HelloFresh’s own IT infrastructure rather than sitting alongside it.

Safety as the selling point

HelloFresh’s European logistics leadership is pitching the move in safety terms as much as operational ones. Mark Sugirtharajah, Senior Director of Logistics Europe at HelloFresh, said the company sees innovation as central to both its kitchens and its final-mile delivery, and that the Samsara tie-up should push its safety policies and operating practices further. Real-time feedback to drivers, in his words, is a way to build a safer driving culture, cut on-road incidents and protect the communities the company delivers into.

For Samsara, the win adds a high-profile consumer brand to its fleet roster at a moment when electric last-mile delivery is scaling quickly in Europe. For HelloFresh, the bet is straightforward: fewer disconnected dashboards, more eyes on the vans that carry the food.

Neither company disclosed financial terms of the agreement.
