Rekor Secures Oregon Contract to Beam Road Hazard Alerts Into Vehicle Screens

Oregon’s Department of Transportation (ODOT) has signaled its intent to award Rekor Systems a statewide contract worth an estimated US$1.4m over five years, tasking the company with delivering real-time hazard warnings directly to drivers’ dashboards and navigation apps. Final terms remain subject to negotiation, with annual renewals kicking in from the third year.

Under the arrangement, Rekor Command would ingest incident and roadwork data from ODOT’s TripCheck platform, verify and rank the information, then push alerts to approaching motorists through Driver Connect. Messages would surface on factory-installed infotainment screens, Apple Maps, Waze, and commercial fleet logging devices, routed via partner HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud network.

The approach requires no roadside infrastructure or additional apps, allowing warnings to reach rural highway stretches where electronic message boards are prohibitively expensive. Coverage, however, hinges on cellular connectivity and platform compatibility, and ODOT intends to incorporate feeds from other vendors it may select.

The initiative follows a Las Vegas rollout that has already pushed more than 1.18 million in-car notifications. Marc Segal, Command Director at Rekor, described the Oregon award as recognition of the value in linking roadway intelligence to the drivers who need it most, noting the company aims to help ODOT broaden its traffic information reach across both urban and rural corridors using tools motorists already have. He added that Rekor’s Southern Nevada experience provides a working foundation for the statewide expansion.
