Ras Al Khaimah and Aridge Launch World's First Flying Car Regulatory Sandbox

Ras Al Khaimah has teamed up with Aridge to set up what the two describe as the first regulatory sandbox dedicated to personal flying vehicles. The initiative aims to give emerging eVTOL designs a controlled environment where they can be tested against safety and operational standards.

The sandbox is designed to move the sector closer to a set of globally recognised rules. By hosting trials under real regulatory oversight, Ras Al Khaimah and Aridge hope to shape how personal flying vehicles are certified and eventually integrated into everyday airspace.

Aridge is positioning the UAE framework as a significant step for the wider advanced air mobility industry. If the model works, it could offer other regulators a template for handling a category of aircraft that currently sits outside most existing rules.

For automakers and startups eyeing flying cars, the project signals that the Gulf state is willing to write the rulebook rather than wait for one. The sandbox could become a testing ground for both vehicle hardware and the certification processes that will decide who gets to fly.
