The MGC was born from an unexpected twist: efforts to modernize the aging Austin-Healey 3000 collided head-on with rising US safety rules. The Healey was in desperate need of updates, yet its fundamental design made it tough to adapt to the stricter bumper and crash standards being introduced at the time. This struggle ultimately paved the way for a different approach, giving rise to the MGC.
