Porsche and Siemens Energy Start Construction on Chile e-Fuel Facility

Porsche and Siemens Energy have officially begun construction on a low-carbon e-fuel production site in Chile. The project, located in the country’s southern region, aims to produce synthetic fuel using wind power and captured carbon dioxide.

The facility represents a joint effort to develop alternatives for vehicles that may remain dependent on liquid fuels, particularly in motorsport and legacy fleets. By leveraging Chile’s strong wind resources, the partners intend to generate renewable hydrogen and combine it with CO2 to create e-fuel.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions without abandoning internal combustion engines entirely. While electric mobility expands, e-fuels could serve as a complementary solution for existing vehicles and specialized applications.

Construction is expected to proceed in phases, with initial production volumes targeted for the mid-2020s. Neither company has disclosed specific investment figures or output capacities beyond the pilot scale.
