Micro Rent Turns to Crowdfunding to Take Microlino Rentals International

Micro Rent, the rental division of Swiss microcar maker Micro, has launched a public equity crowdfunding campaign aimed at expanding its hospitality-oriented Microlino rental business beyond its domestic market. The move signals a push to turn the quirky bubble-car rental concept into a scalable international operation.
The company’s model centers on the Microlino, a compact electric vehicle that draws on the styling of the classic Isetta microcar but runs on a modern battery-electric drivetrain. Rather than chasing the mass rental market dominated by conventional cars, Micro Rent targets hotels, resorts and other hospitality partners that want to offer guests a distinctive, low-emission way to get around. The crowdfunding round is intended to fund that expansion, giving the business fresh capital to enter new markets and add rental locations outside Switzerland.
Using crowdfunding as a growth tool is a notable choice for a niche operator. Equity crowdfunding lets a company raise money from a broad pool of smaller investors while also building a community of supporters who may later become customers or promoters. For a brand built on an unusual vehicle, that kind of engaged audience could be especially valuable. It also avoids, at least in part, the more traditional route of venture capital or strategic backing from a large rental group.
The Microlino itself sits at the small end of the electric vehicle spectrum, designed for short urban trips rather than long-distance travel. That positioning fits naturally with hospitality use cases, where a vehicle may only be needed for a brief outing to a nearby beach, restaurant or town center. For hotels, offering such a car can be a differentiator and a visible sustainability credential, while for Micro Rent it creates recurring demand from partners that need a small fleet on site.
Scaling beyond the home market will be the real test. Expanding a rental operation means dealing with local regulations, servicing and logistics in each new country, and competing for attention in a crowded mobility landscape. The crowdfunding campaign will reveal whether investors believe the Microlino’s charm and hospitality focus are enough to support a broader international footprint. If successful, the round could mark the moment Micro Rent evolves from a Swiss experiment into a recognisable name in niche electric mobility rentals.
