Mercedes-Benz Brings YASA Under Its Roof to Strengthen Electric Motor Expertise

Mercedes-Benz has acquired YASA, a UK-based company known for its advanced axial-flux electric motor technology. The move is part of the automaker’s broader strategy to deepen its in-house capabilities in electric propulsion.
YASA’s motors are lighter and more compact than conventional radial-flux units, which can help improve efficiency and packaging in electric vehicles. Mercedes-Benz has already used YASA’s technology in some of its high-performance hybrid models, and the acquisition is expected to accelerate development for future electric platforms.
By integrating YASA’s team and know-how, Mercedes-Benz aims to secure a key component of its electric drivetrain supply chain and reduce reliance on external suppliers. The deal reflects a growing trend among automakers to bring critical EV technologies in-house as they ramp up electric offerings.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the coming months.
