MAN Hits 200,000th TGE Van as Production Tempo Doubles

MAN Truck & Bus has rolled the 200,000th unit of its TGE van off the line at its Września plant in Poland, reached in early October 2026 — exactly a decade after the model first appeared in public and roughly nine years after series output kicked off. What makes the milestone notable isn’t just the number itself but the speed behind it: the second 100,000 vans took a little over three years to complete, about half the time required to build the first batch, which was only wrapped up in summer 2023, more than six years into production.

The TGE was originally shown to the public at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, an event since rebranded as IAA Transportation, with manufacturing starting in spring 2017. Its growing footprint across trades, construction, logistics, municipal operators and the premium motorhome segment is something MAN attributes largely to body-building expertise carried over from its truck division — a crossover of engineering knowledge that appears to give the van an advantage when specialist fleets need bespoke configurations.

That versatility shows up clearly in the production mix. Chassis cabs represent nearly a third of all TGEs built, split between 21% with a single cab and 8% with a double cab, and close to one in three vehicles leaves the factory with a body already fitted. Conversions span tippers, dropsides and box bodies as well as shelving, refrigerated and passenger-carrying variants. Panel vans account for the remaining 71% of output.

Drivetrain preferences have also been shifting. Automatic gearboxes now edge out manuals with a narrow 53% to 47% lead, a sign that even in the commercial van segment buyers are moving toward easier-shifting setups. The milestone vehicle itself — a rear-wheel-drive TGE 5.160 cowl with an automatic transmission — was assembled from 1,264 individual parts and required roughly 52 hours of build time. As for customer colour choices, Candy White, Indium Grey Metallic and Reflex Silver Metallic have emerged as the most requested finishes.

The figures point to a van that has quietly gained ground in a crowded European commercial vehicle market, helped by MAN’s ability to leverage truck-derived chassis and body solutions rather than treating the TGE as a standalone light commercial project. With the second 100,000 units produced in roughly half the time of the first, the Września plant’s ramp-up suggests demand for the platform — and for the specialised conversions built on it — continues to strengthen heading into the model’s second decade.
