Mahindra's Charge_iN Network Reaches 50 Stations Across India

Mahindra’s public charging brand, Charge_iN, has now crossed the 50-station mark in India, giving the automaker a larger footprint in the country’s fast-developing EV infrastructure race.

The milestone location sits at an HP Auto Care Centre along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a heavily trafficked inter-city route. Notably, it marks the debut operational site under Mahindra’s partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). That agreement, unveiled in March, set out plans to install EV charging equipment at HPCL retail outlets nationwide, pairing fuel-station footfall with plug-in convenience.

Hardware at every Charge_iN site is standardized: 180 kW dual-gun chargers. The network is tailored specifically to Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUV family, which includes the XEV 9e, BE 6 SPORTEQ and XEV 9S. By keeping the equipment consistent across locations, the company can promise predictable charging speeds for owners of its own vehicles.

Placement strategy leans on long-distance travel. Stations are deliberately placed along major highway corridors and sited next to restaurants and cafés, so drivers can combine a charging stop with a meal or a break. That approach echoes a broader trend among automakers building proprietary or semi-proprietary charging networks to ease range anxiety on inter-city routes.

The expansion reflects how legacy automakers in India are moving beyond vehicle sales into energy infrastructure. Mahindra’s tie-up with HPCL gives it access to an established retail network, while HPCL gains a foothold in electric mobility. For drivers, the practical result is a slowly densifying map of fast chargers linking India’s busiest urban corridors.
