London’s Metropolitan Police are reportedly turning to the same high-powered, technically illegal e-bikes used by criminals to keep up during chases. The move highlights a growing cat-and-mouse dynamic between law enforcement and offenders who exploit fast, unregulated electric bicycles.

Standard legal e-bikes in the UK are limited to 250 watts and 15.5 mph, but illegal models can reach much higher speeds and are often used in street crime and phone snatching. Police are now using similar machines to match that speed and agility in urban pursuit situations.
