Liux Big: Spanish Microcar Aims to Rival Chinese EV Makers with a Green Core

Spanish startup Liux has unveiled its Big microcar, a compact electric vehicle that the company believes can carve out a niche in an increasingly crowded segment. The car is built around sustainability, using recycled and bio-based materials as part of a design philosophy that prioritizes environmental impact in production as much as on the road.

The Big, which measures just over 3 meters long, targets urban drivers who need a small, efficient vehicle for city commuting. Liux claims the car’s lightweight construction and modular battery system offer a range of around 150 km, making it suitable for daily trips. The interior features recyclable panels and even a floor made from a flax-based composite.

Liux’s strategy is to differentiate through transparency and lifecycle assessment. By publishing detailed carbon footprint data for each component, the company hopes to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers who might otherwise consider budget Chinese EVs. Prices are expected to start in the low €20,000 range, positioning it as a premium yet accessible alternative.

However, the microcar market is fiercely competitive, with established players like Citroën Ami and new entrants from China pushing prices down. Liux’s bet rests on whether its sustainability story can justify a higher cost. The company plans to begin deliveries in 2025, starting with Europe.
