Kolkata Police Add 183 Ultraviolette Electric Motorcycles to Fleet

Kolkata Police is electrifying its patrol operations with a sizable order of electric motorcycles. The department has received the first 60 units of an eventual 183-bike fleet, a move that will rank among the largest electric two-wheeler rollouts by any police force in India once the remaining deliveries are completed.
The bikes come from Bengaluru-based startup Ultraviolette Automotive, and they are not standard retail machines. The company developed a dedicated patrol configuration called ‘Skyforce’ specifically for this order, marking the first time the setup has been deployed. Each motorcycle carries LED blinkers, sirens, hooters, a public address system, plus mounts for microphones and walkie-talkies, along with side panniers and livery that sets it apart from the X-47 adventure tourer sold to private customers.
Based on the entry-level X-47 powertrain, the Skyforce version uses a 27 kW motor producing 90 Nm of torque and a 7.1 kWh battery. That combination delivers a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.2 seconds, a 145 km/h top speed and up to 211 km of range on the Indian Driving Cycle. A higher-spec X-47 with a 30 kW motor and 10.3 kWh pack stretches range to 323 km while matching the same top speed.
Commissioner Ajay Nand said the motorcycles will primarily support the 112 Emergency Response Support System, and he signalled that electric cars could join the fleet before long. Ultraviolette CEO Narayan Subramaniam called the induction a landmark moment, noting his company is the first electric two-wheeler maker by scale to have its motorcycles taken into police service.
