Jaecoo J5 EV Gets Uber Discount to Lure Rideshare Drivers

Omoda Jaecoo is making a play for the rideshare crowd, dangling a discount of up to 15% on its J5 electric SUV for Uber drivers who qualify. The offer lands squarely on the J5, the mid-size SUV that has quietly become a volume seller since its launch in December 2025.

More than 11,000 J5 units have moved so far this year, and pairing that momentum with a direct incentive for professional drivers is a tidy bit of positioning. Uber Pro drivers holding Gold, Platinum or Diamond status are the ones eligible for the savings, and the deal isn’t limited to the J5 — Jaecoo’s wider lineup, including the J7 and the Omoda 9 with the brand’s Super Hybrid System, also carries offers. Drivers can register through Omoda Jaecoo’s website to see which models are available, though the company notes that stock depends on supply.

What the J5 brings to the table

The numbers behind the J5 are respectable for the money. A front-mounted 155 kW motor delivers 288 Nm, enough to push the SUV from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds — brisk by the standards of the class. A 58.9 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery is rated for up to 402 km on the WLTP cycle, and vehicle-to-load capability is on the equipment list.

Inside, a 13.2-inch portrait screen handles climate, radio and vehicle settings, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard. There’s a 50 W wireless charging pad tucked beneath the display in an otherwise pared-back cabin. Safety kit includes seven airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning.

Jaecoo operates as Chery’s lifestyle-focused sub-brand, and the J5 carries seats trimmed in a silicone-based synthetic leather the company says is antibacterial, hard-wearing and easy to wipe down — a sensible choice for cars that spend long days shuttling passengers.

Ownership terms are generous too: an 8-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, 8 years of capped-price servicing, and an 8-year unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.

For drivers weighing the switch, the arithmetic is straightforward. Fuel savings on a high-mileage rideshare shift add up quickly, and a purchase price below $37,000 before any discount makes the J5 one of the more accessible mid-size electric SUVs on the market. Whether the Uber deal pulls a meaningful number of drivers out of petrol cars remains to be seen — but it’s a low-friction way to get more electric metal onto the road.
