Hyundai Reportedly Prepares Two New Electric SUVs: Ioniq 4 and Ioniq 7

Hyundai looks set to widen its electric-only Ioniq family with two fresh SUVs in the coming year to year-and-a-half, according to a British media report. The pair would slot into size classes where the brand currently has no electric offering of its own, leaving sister company Kia to cover the ground with its EV3 and EV5.

The smaller of the two, expected to be called Ioniq 4, is described as a compact SUV with a sharper look and a more traditional boxy silhouette. It would sit above the recently launched Ioniq 3 hatchback and below the Ioniq 5. A report suggests production could begin in 2027, with a cabin similar to the Ioniq 3 and a choice of two battery packs, roughly 42 kWh or 61 kWh.

The larger model, likely badged Ioniq 7, is positioned as a family-oriented mid-size SUV between the Ioniq 5 and the flagship Ioniq 9. It is said to adopt an 800-volt electrical architecture to stay competitive, and to be offered with single- and dual-motor drivetrains. Battery capacity and range figures have not been reported.

Hyundai has not officially confirmed either vehicle. Still, comments from its European product chief, who called the compact SUV segment important while declining to give details, and an August strategy update that mentioned a new B-segment electric SUV, suggest movement in that direction. The Ioniq badge began as a single model in 2016 offering hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions, became a dedicated EV sub-brand in 2020, and the Ioniq 7 name was freed up when the planned large SUV was renamed Ioniq 9.
