Hyundai Elevates Veteran Executive to Lead North America Dealer Network Growth

Hyundai has handed a key leadership role to a seasoned hand from within its own ranks, naming Mark Kato to a vice president position overseeing dealer network development across North America. The appointment places Kato at the center of the automaker’s efforts to broaden, reinforce and sustain its retail operations throughout the region.

His portfolio extends beyond the Hyundai brand itself. Kato will also guide dealer-facing work tied to Genesis, the company’s luxury marque, which relies on a distinct and still-maturing retail footprint in North America. That dual scope puts him in charge of teams whose job is to grow the network while keeping existing franchise partners supported and productive.

Kato is no newcomer to this side of the business. He has spent years inside Hyundai’s dealer development apparatus, giving him familiarity with the relationships, regional dynamics and franchise structures that shape how the brand reaches customers. Promoting from within signals continuity: the company appears to be betting that institutional knowledge matters as much as fresh strategy when the task is expanding a retail base.

Dealer network development carries outsized weight for automakers pushing electrified and premium offerings. Showrooms must be prepared to explain new powertrains, charging routines and software features, and Genesis in particular needs retail points that can credibly compete in the luxury space. Strengthening those operations is as much about training and standards as it is about adding locations.

Hyundai has not disclosed further details about the transition or specific targets for network expansion. For now, the move reads as an internal consolidation of retail leadership, with a longtime executive tasked with carrying the North American dealer strategy forward into its next phase.
