Honda Refreshes the 2027 Civic Type R With Cabin Upgrades and a Higher Sticker

Honda has given its hottest hatch a light going-over for 2027, and the biggest changes land inside rather than under the hood. The sole new exterior shade is a Meteorite Gray Metallic option, while the front fascia gets a larger grille and a revised splitter that the company says aid cooling and downforce — tweaks that are hard to verify outside a racetrack but do the car no harm on a circuit.

The more useful revision concerns the adaptive dampers. Owners have long complained that the aggressive R+ setting felt overly stiff on imperfect pavement, and Honda claims that mode is now noticeably more livable. Throttle blipping on downshifts is quicker through a reworked rev-matching system, and a spring added to the brake pedal is meant to cut slack and sharpen feel.

Inside, the front seats gain perforation designed to reduce sliding, and for the first time in the model’s history they can be heated. Ultrasuede now covers the instrument panel and upper door cards, a functional choice since that material helps cut windshield glare. Honda also swapped several formerly silver pieces — door handles, vent trim and climate knobs — for black, and darkened the aluminum shift knob to a gray finish. An auto-dimming mirror and extra USB-C ports are now standard, and the infotainment picks up the Alexa assistant plus the latest Google services. An updated Honda Sensing package adds post-collision braking.

The powertrain is untouched: a 2.0-liter turbo making 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft, still routing drive to the front wheels. What has moved is the price, which now opens at 49,990—49,990 — 1,300 above the previous model year. That figure sits close to double the cost of the standard Civic it is built from, and with the Civic Si available for far less, shoppers have a cheaper way to get most of the same thrills.
