GM Dismisses Hybrids, Doubles Down on Diesel and V8 Power for Pickups

General Motors is making a bold bet that hybrid technology isn’t the right path for its pickup lineup. According to The Autopian, the company believes “hybrids really don’t do it” for these vehicles, opting instead to focus on diesel engines and large V8s. This decision comes as other automakers increasingly electrify their truck offerings.

Instead of chasing hybrid efficiency, GM is sticking with proven powertrains that appeal to its core truck buyers. Diesel and V8 engines continue to deliver the towing and payload capabilities that customers demand, and GM sees these as more aligned with the needs of the pickup market.

This strategy sets GM apart from competitors who are introducing hybrid and electric pickups. While the industry shifts toward electrification, GM’s commitment to traditional power suggests it believes there’s still a strong market for conventional engines in the full-size truck segment.
