Geely in Talks to Adopt Nio-Axera M97 Chip for L3 Autonomy, Report

Geely is reportedly evaluating the M97 chip, co-developed by Nio and Axera, for integration into a dual-chip L3 autonomous driving system. The assessment marks a potential expansion of Nio’s in-house silicon beyond its own vehicles, signaling broader industry interest in specialized compute platforms for advanced driver assistance.

The M97 chip, part of Nio’s Shenji series, is positioned as a high-performance solution capable of handling complex sensor fusion and decision-making tasks. If Geely proceeds with the adoption, it would validate the chip’s competitiveness against offerings from established suppliers like Mobileye and NVIDIA.

Industry analysts view the move as mutually beneficial: Nio gains a new revenue stream and scale advantages, while Geely secures a capable domestic alternative for its premium EV platforms. However, the report notes that discussions are still in early stages, and no final agreement has been reached.
