FAW-Volkswagen Teases Second ID. AURA Model: A Compact Electric Sedan

FAW-Volkswagen is expanding its ID. AURA family in China. The joint venture has released a series of teaser images over three consecutive days, from October 12 to 14, hinting at the arrival of a new model. While the images only reveal design details like the lighting signature, body lines, and windows, industry speculation points to a compact electric sedan.

According to Chinese automotive media outlet Auto Home, the upcoming vehicle is likely to be named the ID. AURA L5. It is expected to serve as the production version of the ID. AURA concept that was first shown in April 2025. That concept was designed specifically for young Chinese families and represented the brand’s first vehicle built on the CMP (Compact Main Platform).

The production model is anticipated to utilize both the CMP platform and China-specific CEA (China Electronic Architecture). This combination is engineered to support advanced features such as a digital cockpit and modern driver assistance systems. The goal is to strengthen Volkswagen’s position in the highly competitive compact car segment in China.

This new sedan will join the ID. AURA T6, an electric SUV that launched on September 20. The T6 is available in four variants with prices ranging from 129,900 yuan to 166,900 yuan. Notably, all T6 versions feature the CEA electrical and electronic architecture co-developed with Xpeng, and the higher-end trims include LiDAR technology.

If confirmed, this sedan will be the second model in the ID. AURA lineup. FAW-Volkswagen had previously announced plans to introduce four all-new NEV models in 2026, including two from the ID. AURA series. The expansion into a sedan body style would broaden the lineup’s appeal beyond the current SUV offering.
