DoorDash Launches Purpose-Built Delivery Drone, Preps California Pilots

DoorDash has taken the wraps off its first custom-designed delivery drone, signaling a deeper push into airborne logistics. The company says it plans to start test flights in Northern California, working alongside local restaurants to fine-tune the end-to-end system.
The drone is central to a broader delivery platform that DoorDash is building — not just the aircraft itself, but the software, routing, and logistics chain needed to get food from kitchen to customer by air. Initial trials will focus on neighborhood-scale operations, with restaurant partners helping validate real-world performance.
Northern California’s regulatory and tech environment makes it a logical first market for these pilots. DoorDash hasn’t yet detailed flight ranges, payload limits, or a timeline for expanding beyond the trial phase.
