Cooper rolls out Discoverer HT, a highway tyre with a Made-in-America pitch

Cooper rolls out Discoverer HT, a highway tyre with a Made-in-America pitch

Cooper has a new highway tyre for pickups and SUVs, and it wants buyers to notice where the rubber is made as much as what it does. The Discoverer HT is now on sale, produced across three American factories in Findlay, Ohio; Tupelo, Mississippi; and Texarkana, Arkansas.

The domestic angle is clearly the headline of the launch. Cooper, now part of Goodyear, is pairing the tyre’s introduction with a refreshed brand identity and pointing truck and SUV owners toward US manufacturing as a reason to pick it over rivals.

Built for work, not just the commute

The Discoverer HT is aimed at the highway end of the truck tyre spectrum — the sort of fitment that spends most of its life on tarmac but still has to haul. Tall, straight sidewalls and a wide contact patch are there to keep things composed under a loaded bed or a trailer on the hitch.

Cooper’s 3D Micro-Gauge tread pattern is designed to maintain grip as the blocks wear down, and the company claims the tread stays quiet even on coarse surfaces.

Key Specs: Up to 70,000 mi (115,000 km) treadwear warranty · Initial sizes for 16- to 22-inch rims · 55,000 mi (90,000 km) on light-truck metric sizes · 16 more LT sizes due Q1 2027

A size rollout that stretches into 2027

The launch covers rims from 16 to 22 inches, which should catch a wide spread of the pickups and SUVs already on the road. Buyers of the light-truck metric versions get a shorter warranty — 55,000 miles, or 90,000 km — while the headline 70,000-mile figure applies to the rest of the line.

Cooper isn’t done expanding. Another 16 light-truck sizes are scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2027, filling out the range for heavier-duty applications.

Why the factory floor matters here

Tyre launches rarely lead with geography. Cooper is doing exactly that, and the reasoning isn’t hard to follow: pickup and SUV owners are a patriotic-leaning crowd, and a domestic supply chain is a simpler story to tell than tread compound chemistry.

Alain Kohnen, Vice President, Global Manufacturing, framed the launch around that heritage. “The Cooper Discoverer HT reflects more than a century of U.S. manufacturing expertise behind the Cooper brand,” he said in a statement, adding that the tyre shows off what the company’s teams do best: building high-quality, U.S.-made products that hold up to daily use.

The tyre is available through authorised Cooper retailers and online. Pricing wasn’t disclosed in the announcement, and real-world treadwear data will take months to surface — warranty figures are a promise, not a test result.

For now, the Discoverer HT is a straightforward play: give truck owners a credible highway option, remind them it was built on home soil, and lean on Goodyear’s backing without making a fuss about it.
